It is possible to get rid of cockroaches without using chemicals, and one of the ways you can do that is by killing roaches with heat. Cockroaches are cold-blooded, and they cannot survive extremely high temperatures.
Do Cockroaches Die In The Cold?
Yes. They cannot tolerate temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit. According to research, they die within an hour when exposed to temperatures below 14 degrees Fahrenheit. And within thirty minutes when exposed to temperatures below zero degrees Fahrenheit. That is why you rarely find them in the freezer section of the fridge.
Can Heat Kill Roaches?
Yes. When exposed to temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius, they die. They prefer the same temperature range that a human would find ideal. Which is between 77 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 25 – 30 degrees Celsius. It is next to impossible to use heat to kill cockroaches as you cannot set your house on fire. This can only be done in places that are enclosed. You can try using a heater to smoke them out by making their hiding space inhabitable. Or you can set items you no longer wish to keep on fire to kill the cockroaches inhabiting them. This is a good way to declutter before moving.
