Reddit has a seemingly infinite number of communities dedicated to comedy and smiles. Here are my picks for some of the funniest subreddits that can offer you your daily dose of humor.
20. r/PerfectTiming
Some pictures just can’t be replicated twice. r/PerfectTiming is a hub for photographers who just happened to have some impeccable timing. You’ll see perfectly-timed pictures of photobombing animals, as well as pictures of funny accidents frozen in action.
19. r/Unexpected
On r/Unexpected, you’ll find videos that seem normal when you first start watching. However, by the end of the video, something completely unexpected happens. These random occurrences are often hilarious, and other times they’re just plain awesome.
18. r/HoldMyBeer
Nothing good ever follows someone saying “Hold my beer!” at a party. It’s the kind of phrase that usually precedes an incredibly stupid stunt. r/HoldMyBeer is home to idiotic (but funny) videos of the things people do after they have a few beers.
17. r/DIWhy
DIY projects can look amazing, but only when they’re done right. The projects on r/DIWhy are far from perfect—they’re the most bizarre and sad-looking DIY projects you’ll ever see. Let’s just say that this subreddit will make you rethink using duct tape to fix everything.
16. r/ThereWasAnAttempt
When an animal or person tries something new, they don’t always succeed. r/ThereWasAnAttempt encourages you to laugh at failure—sometimes, the funniest things come out of our mistakes! This subreddit features a ton of funny fails that will have you scrolling for hours.
15. r/Me_IRL
r/Me_IRL is a meme subreddit where users post all kinds of images, GIFs, snapshots, and whatever else—anything goes as long as it represents who you are or how you feel in actual real-life. As the subreddit name shows, “me_irl” is for anything that says, “This is actually me in real-life.” Where does the funny come in? Well, you’d be surprised at how many posts you find relatable, and it’s humorous how we all tend to feel similarly about absurd things.
14. r/AnimalsBeingDerps
Don’t you just love when animals do stupid, but extremely cute things? Head to r/AnimalsBeingDerps, and you’ll see photos and videos of animals doing the odd things that we love them for. It’s the purest form of watching-animals-be-dumb entertainment.
13. r/StartledCats
Along the same lines as r/AnimalsBeingDerps, you have r/StartledCats. It’s a very specific kind of derp that focuses solely on cats being surprised by the silliest things, as cats are want to do. I have a love-hate relationship with this subreddit because I hate the posts where people are obviously goading cats for internet likes, but the unintentional ones can be quite hilarious!
12. r/PerfectlyCutScreams
Comedy is all about timing, and one of the funniest “editing tricks” is to cut a scream short. Like, right when they’re about to scream. r/PerfectlyCutScreams is a subreddit that celebrates videos that end just as someone is about to scream. There’s a very narrow moment when a cut can be considered “perfectly cut”—and not every video here makes the cut, so to speak—but the ones that get it right are such a joy to watch.
11. r/WholesomeMemes
Over the last few years, a kind of “wholesome subculture” has developed in the corners of Reddit, and a lot of the movement’s initial growth can be attributed to r/WholesomeMemes. This subreddit is basically like any other meme subreddit, except all the memes here are uplifting or positive in some way. Amidst all the negativity that plagues social media, this might be a good place to hang out for laughs that are also joy-inspiring.
10. r/DNDMemes
If you play Dungeons and Dragons, you absolutely need to check out r/DNDMemes. You’ll find all kinds of hilarious memes that poke fun at the overall D&D experience, touching on everything from strange lore to funny table habits that we’ve all encountered. If you’ve never played Dungeons and Dragons before, you may not get most of the jokes—but if you intend to play in the near future, this can be a great way to ease yourself in!
9. r/AntiMeme
r/AntiMeme is kind of like the deadpan humor alternative to typical meme comedy, where common memes are stripped, untwisted, and played straight. You know, antijokes. Of course, antijokes aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, so you may not see any humor in these. In that case, go ahead and skip this one. There are still plenty other subreddits to explore below!
8. r/StarterPacks
If you don’t know what “starter packs” are, they’re combinations of images and text that represent clichéd descriptions of certain people, experiences, or situations. r/StarterPacks is one of the best places on the web to find new and hilarious starter packs. Users tackle all kinds of topics here, from modern Disney movie starter packs to the starter pack for the average American basement.
7. r/ProgrammerHumor
Whether you’re a student taking programming classes or a veteran software engineer, there’s a lot of relatable humor to be found in r/ProgrammerHumor. From jokes about imposter syndrome to memes about StackOverflow, you won’t be able to help but laugh (and maybe cry) at just how close to home these posts hit. Even if you aren’t a programmer, you’ll probably be able to empathize!
6. r/NonPoliticalTwitter
These days, social media is highly charged with political discussions that invade every corner, and no social media platform is more political than Twitter in recent years. That’s why r/NonPoliticalTwitter was born. This subreddit is meant to laugh with (and sometimes laugh at) the funny, strange, and absurd interactions that happen on Twitter, as long as they have nothing to do with politics.
5. r/TikTokCringe
While r/TikTokCringe was originally born as a place to post cringeworthy TikTok videos, the subreddit has since evolved into a general place to highlight all kinds of TikTok videos. Whether they’re cringey, sad, educational, or outrageous, you’ll find a lot of varied content here—and a lot of it can be funny. You can filter the subreddit by posts flaired as “Humor” if you only want funny stuff.
4. r/FixedByTheDuet
r/FixedByTheDuet is another TikTok-centric subreddit, except this one highlights clever and funny clips that fulfill two criteria: first, it features a TikTok video that’s flawed in some way, and second, there’s a TikTok Duet that redeems the original video. You have to see it for yourself to really get it, so don’t take my word for it. Hop over to the subreddit and watch a few right now!
3. r/YouTubeHaiku
Just as a haiku is a short-form poem, a YouTube haiku is a short-form video clip. r/YouTubeHaiku is a place where users can share their favorite YouTube “haikus” that are under 15 seconds long (as well as videos under 30 seconds long, called “poems”). This subreddit is a great way to recapture the greatness of YouTube’s first few years, when people uploaded all kinds of nonsensical videos for fun rather than for profit.
2. r/KenM
If you’ve never heard of KenM, you’re missing out. He’s an internet troll who frequently writes dull-witted comments on news articles and social media pages, baiting other users who take him seriously. But unlike most trolls and pranksters, KenM is beloved because he always makes himself the butt of his jokes rather than trolling at the expense of others. His comments are never malicious, so you can’t help but laugh at his ignorance. r/KenM is a subreddit where users can post their KenM encounters from the wild, although in recent years the subreddit has basically become a place for fans to repost their favorite KenM bits.
1. r/ContagiousLaughter
Have you ever experienced those moments when you start laughing just because of another person’s laugh? Well, r/ContagiousLaughter is full of those moments. Each video on this subreddit features silly scenarios followed by bouts of infectious laughter.
Keep Scrolling, Keep Laughing
Reddit might seem like an unlikely source for humor, but you can easily find comic relief once you know where to look. With millions of users posting new content daily, you’ll never get bored. Read next: Interesting subreddits that’ll help you kill time
